Orthodontics


The objectives of the orthodontics programme are to provide a residency training programme in orthodontics, to promote continuing professional education, to develop research in orthodontics and to aid general dental education.

The programme covers basic sciences and sciences related to orthodontics, diagnosis and treatment planning. It offers structured, solid and wide-ranging education with clinical experience in different treatment methods, covering removable as well as fixed appliances (edgewise). The resident will gain:

  • Experience of treating a wide range of orthodontic cases, including interdisciplinary cases. 
  • Ability to independently carry out research and to critically evaluate scientific publications. 
The research activities should be reported in a thesis or in scientific articles. The teaching of undergraduate students is an obligatory part of the course. 

About the programme
In order to take part in the course, dentists need to be in possession of a dental degree from a dental school accredited by the European Union and have a good command of the Dutch and English language.

Diploma 
The structured training programme leads to a certification in orthodontics (valid in the Netherlands and EU), upon successful completion of a final examination by a committee of the Dutch Specialists Registration Board.

Programme duration 
The postgraduate programme in orthodontics at ACTA is a full-time course requiring four years in active residence, beginning in last quarter of the year, every second year.
