The department of Periodontology in ACTA is offering a postgraduate programme since 1991. It is one of few EFP-recognized postgraduate programmes in Europe. The information below is useful for anyone who is interested to apply for this programme.

Aim
The aim of this programme is to train dentists in periodontology to a specialist level. The three years fulltime programme, a highly integrated selection of courses, emphasizes the development of a strong scientific background coupled with advanced diagnostic and clinical skills. In addition to seminars and tutorials, a considerable amount of time is devoted to treatment of patients referred by general practitioners. This clinical part involves extensive training in diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases, as well as in implantology. Research training within the field of periodontology is also part of the programme. The results of the research project should be presented in the form of a written thesis which is suitable for publication in an international peer-reviewed journal. This approach is intended to prepare motivated individuals for a career in a multitude of areas, including clinical practice, education and research. The director of the programme is prof. dr. Bruno Loos who is supported by a number of specialists. Also guest lecturers from around the world are invited to share their ideas with the postgraduate students. Only BIG-certified dentists (with a Dutch diploma or another EU-diploma recognized for the BIG-registration) can apply for the programme.
